Available online the ‘Loreto Charter’ for HPV Prevention in Marche Region.

During the conference on ‘HPV Prevention: communication, involvement, intersectionality & innovation’ (4/10/2024), organised by the Marche Regional Section of the Italian Hygiene Society, the ‘Loreto Charter’, an advocacy document aimed at enhancing HPV prevention in the Marche region and beyond, was presented.

HPV is one of the most widespread sexually transmitted infections in the world, related to several forms of cancer, including cervical carcinoma. Despite the World Health Organisation's goal of vaccinating 90 per cent of girls by the age of 15 by 2030, vaccination coverage in the Marche region is still not optimal.

The paper, drawn up by health professionals from various sectors, proposes a collaborative approach aimed at boosting vaccination through 34 specific actions and involving 7 key players in the health system. The speakers and moderators of the conference have already made 17 concrete commitments towards improving the current situation. The ‘Loreto Charter’ is available on the ‘Vaccinarsi nelle Marche’ website, where organisations, professionals and citizens can support and download the document, in the hope that it will expand beyond the regional borders, thereby helping to eliminate cervical cancer as a major concern for Public Health.
