Surveillance of infectious diseases lays the foundation for their possible control. The information flow for infectious diseases starts from the periphery of the most distant territories and converge towards the centre for Regional, National and Supranational reporting.
In Sardinia, the 2014-2018 PRP launched a specific project to strengthen surveillance systems and respond to infectious disease emergencies. (see Attachment 2. Regional Prevention Plan P-9.1 Development and reinforcement of vaccinations).
In this context, the surveillance of infectious vaccine-preventable diseases is fundamental for evaluating the effectiveness of preventive vaccination measures. For this reason, special surveillance programs (surveillance of acute flaccid paralysis, surveillance of hospital admissions for rotavirus gastroenteritis, surveillance of invasive bacterial diseases) are active alongside the information flows for infectious diseases.
