Practical guidelines on childhood vaccinations

The Italian Society of Hygiene (SItI), through its ‘Vaccines and Vaccination Policies’ Working Group, has drawn up a document entitled ‘Practical indications on childhood vaccination’. The aim is to highlight how co-administration and active call are the two main operational modes that make it possible to improve vaccination coverage and optimise the vaccination schedule.

Hygienists underline the cruciality of taking urgent action to implement and optimise childhood vaccinations, in particular those recommended, which are an essential cornerstone for the prevention of infectious diseases.

The absence or low impact of many vaccine-preventable diseases is linked to the attainment and continuation of a high vaccination coverage, which is therefore fundamental, as reiterated by the new National Vaccine Prevention Plan,’ says Prof. Giovanni Gabutti, Coordinator of the ‘Vaccines and Vaccination Policies’ Working Group of the Italian Society of Hygiene (SItI). ‘ It is necessary to improve the vaccination offer and Public Health is tasked with indicating innovative and efficient ways to increase coverage and optimise the vaccination schedule. Co-administration and active call have been pinpointed, also at the international level, as the two main operational approaches to achieve these goals. It is therefore considered essential to take urgent action to implement and optimise vaccination coverage in childhood, especially those recommended, which constitutes an essential cornerstone for the prevention of infectious diseases’.

The document ‘Practical indications on childhood vaccination’ is published in the SCIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE area, among the Articles available in the VACCINES section (Go to article).
